What Is JPJ-Compliant Window Tint in Malaysia?

Malaysia currently requires a minimum Visible Light Transmission (VLT) of 70% for the front windscreen and 50% for the front driver and passenger windows. There is no minimum VLT requirement for the rear passenger windows or rear windscreen. These limits apply to the completed glass-and-film combination—not the film alone. Original automotive glass already reduces some visible light, so a film advertised as 80% VLT may not leave an 80% final reading after installation. For example, 80% glass combined with 80% film gives a theoretical VLT of approximately 64%, which would not meet the 70% front-windscreen requirement. The calculation is only a guide because glass, film, manufacturing tolerances and meter calibration can affect the result. The installer should measure the original glass and verify the completed window with a suitable calibrated VLT meter. Do not judge JPJ compliance from the film catalogue alone; JPJ evaluates the finished window system.
