Can a JPJ-Compliant Front Windscreen Provide Genuinely High Heat Rejection?

Understand the technology limitation between very high visible-light transmission and genuinely high, broad-spectrum solar heat rejection.

SHORT ANSWER

No—not genuinely high heat rejection across the broad solar spectrum. A JPJ-compliant front windscreen must maintain at least 70% VLT after installation. Since original automotive glass may already have approximately 80–85% VLT, the film must remain exceptionally clear. This creates a technology limitation: adding enough effective infrared-control material to achieve genuinely high, broad-spectrum heat rejection will normally reduce visible-light transmission or affect the film’s optical appearance. Some clear films are advertised with specifications such as 90% VLT and 97% IRR, but that IRR figure may represent only one selected wavelength—such as 950 nm or 1400 nm—where the film performs particularly well. It does not prove 97% rejection across the full solar-infrared range, nor does it mean that 97% of total solar heat is rejected. This is why a film can produce an impressive handheld-meter reading but still feel hot during prolonged exposure under the sun. Check the final film-on-glass VLT, the IRR wavelength or range, TSER at the stated VLT, full spectral performance data and independent testing for the exact film model. A clear JPJ-compliant film may reduce some heat, but high meter readings do not always equal real comfort under the sun.
